Artist Statement
Feminine archetypes serve as the intellectual impetus and subject matter for my recent works; women costumed and engaged in rituals as subjects of mythologies. My work probes the inner delvings of identity and landscapes of antiquity. I explore the subtleties of self- exposure.
I work with gouache, ink, acrylic, and oil to test my artistic limitations and to become intimately acquainted with how each medium behaves and responds in relationship to the surfaces they interact with.
My painting process is imbued with both wonder and revelation. I mix media, use mark making, and infuse poem snippets into my assemblage. Color and abstraction are used methodically in my figuration. When I paint, I feel larger than the limits of my body.
